Foodie Takes Over Nola

Back in the Spring 2014 semester, mom whatsapped me about a food exposition in New Orleans held by the IFT (Institute of Food Technologists). She wanted to take me and my grandmother to check out the exposition and also to visit her alma mater, Loyola University, since she never got the chance to take Apo back in the day. I found no interest whatsoever in attending the food expo {honesty above all}, I believe I was too busy "studying" and doing who-knows-what to simply Google about it and get a grasp of the event.

I think I wasn't very excited for this trip {and please don't get me wrong, I was all in to spend a good time with my two main women} compared to other past voyages. Usually, I would count the days to pack my bags, jump right into the plane and get away for a few days. New Orleans just arrived, I wasn't even aware of it.

But boy, New Orleans you really surprised me. Probably one of the most eye-opening travels I've ever had. I learned a little more about myself and my major. I couldn't be more grateful!

Now, I'll leave you with the highlights of each day in beautiful Nola {I just screenshot my happydoriboo Instagram account}.

Flourchild

Finally created my cupcake website! Not only for cupcakes, but baked goods in general. Thing is that everything, my dream and my next goal,  started with a simple Strawberry Cheesecake cupcake. Check it out!

You and I

“Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They’re lonely. They’re missing somebody. They’re in love with someone they probably shouldn’t be in love with. They have secrets you wouldn’t believe. They wish and they dream and they hope, and they look out the window whenever they’re in the car or on a bus or a train and they watch the people on the streets and wonder what they’ve been through. They wonder if there are people out there like them. They’re like you, and you could tell them everything and they would understand.

And right now, they’re sitting here reading these words, and I’m writing this for you so you don’t feel alone anymore.”

From the Belly

I love Panama. I call this place home, not because of the place itself, but because of the lovely people. People I'm lucky to have in my life or who left behind a little seed in the garden of my soul {they might not be around physically, but you might still feel a faint note of them in my essence*}. {{And of course, if you don't live in Panama, don't feel left out. You know you have a space in my big little heart}}.

Some people cannot simply shift away from your life. You are stuck with them and there's nothing you can do about it. Yeah, I'm talking about the people you know since they were in the bellies, or the other way around; people who know you since you were in the belly. Family, friends of the family or extended family. Family all over the place. Here is a glipmse of my very own. Some of my favourite humans, the children of both of my godparents, my cousins: Irene, Priscilla and Emilio, missing Eduardo.

They are practically my other brothers and sisters. It's fun and refreshing to be around people who do not judge you or expect you to behave according to society's standards. They accept you as you are and know the real you, without necessarily knowing your juiciest secrets or whatever you've done in the past. There's nothing you have to hide, no one you have to impress, trust you have to trust or heart you have to protect. You let your guard down, take off your mask and give them your whole self because you know that in their arms, you are safe. You are home.
